While the world was perturbed by the Amber X Johnny trial, a very interesting case shook the world. Ghislaine Maxwell, 60, also known as Jeffrey Epstein’s “right-hand man”, was sentenced in the Manhattan federal court by United States circuit judge Alison J. Nathan to 20 years in prison for her role in a scheme to sexually exploit and abuse multiple minor girls as young as 14 over the course of a decade.
After a 10-day trial, Ghislaine was sentenced on sex trafficking charges. She was accused of groping and grooming underaged girls for Epstein and other celebrities or high-profile businessmen and women.
Who is Jeffrey Epstein?
Jeffrey Epstein, a former American financier, Investor, and socialite was born in 1953 to a mid-family. He became a teacher despite not having a college degree at the Dalton School in Manhattan, New York. Over the years, he is known to have taken several roles in the banking and finance sector before starting his own firm. In the early 1990’s, He developed an elite social circle and during this time, he met Ghislaine, whose father owned a huge Newspaper Company in the UK. When Ghislaine’s father died from a Heart attack and an accidental drowning while cruising on his yacht “Lady Ghislaine”, several reports claimed that he had squandered his employees’ Pension fund, almost costing Ghislaine, and her family the entire Newspaper empire.
It is rumored that Jeff got a huge chunk of his money from the Maxwell’s Business through Ghislaine. But this might not be true as Jeff made a lot of money from investing. He made an undisclosed amount of money monthly from being a bounty hunter, to working as a consultant, to working for Billionaires like Leslie Wexner, the chairman and CEO of L Brands and Victoria secret as a financial adviser and right-hand man from 1986-1995. In 1995 he was a director in one of Wexner’s foundation where he made millions by managing Wexner’s affairs.
The first time Epstein was accused of sexual abuse was in 2005 after a parent accused him of abusing her 14-year-old child. In 2008 he served almost 13 months in custody on the charges of Procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute. For the next decade, he made public statements that insinuated that these girls were prostitute, and they “all” accused him because they had a crush on him. Without the victims testifying against him in court(corruption), he was able to get a reduced sentence, and, in a way, justice was not served. While he was in prison, his cell door was always open, he would go to work, eat what other cellmates were not eating, and so on. Once he got out of there, the abuse did not stop since he got off with less than a slap on the wrist for a really bad behavior.
On July 6, 2019, Epstein was arrested again for sexually trafficking minors in Florida and New York. This came after the #Metoo Movement lent a voice to victims to share their story.
However, on August 10,2019 he allegedly committed suicide. I say allegedly because another autopsy report requested by his brother ruled his death as a murder. Jeffrey was on suicide watch and guards would often go to his cell to check on him every 30 minutes to see how he was doing; he had a roommate at this time. The night he died, his roommate was moved into another cell and the guards did not check on him for 2 hours. According to the guards, they were asleep. He allegedly died using his bed sheet to strangle himself to death, But I can’t help but wonder, could it be that these high-profile people killed Jeffrey to bury their secret?
After his death, a black book, with at least 1500 names of Sex offenders, and Businesses; agencies, cruises restaurants, hotels, across Europe and the United States, was saved from being destroyed by a butler (Name withheld). Some of the names on the list include Chris Tucker, Naomi Campbell, Alec Baldwin, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Trump, Jim Morrison, Chris Evans, Beverly hills hotel and security, and so on. It is reported that Epstein media rooms in both his mansion in New York and his private island in the Virgin Islands. Epstein and Maxwell videotaped everyone on the island putting cameras in their bathrooms and bedrooms. In 2018, Epstein implied that these videotapes were blackmail material, that he had “dirt” on Powerful people, including information about their sexual “Proclivities” and recreational drug use.
How Ghislaine was a big part of this?
Ghislaine met Epstein in 1991 after her father’s death, he had her come to the United States to recover from her grief. Several of Epstein accusers reported that Ghislaine and Epstein would encourage girls to recruit other from their various schools, using money as a clickbait- $200 if they did what was asked of them, $200 if they bring someone. Most of these young girls were vulnerable. It is either they were sexually abused before their encounter with the Pedophiles, or they came from a troubled home, or they were naïve. This is the type of naivety we see among younger girls around us. They are easily swayed by anything, and without guidance, the fall victim to situations like these and they find it difficult to say no or get out of the situation.
These girls would take part in a wide range of sexual acts from giving massages to stripping to having sex with these men and women. It was reported by some of the victims that Ghislaine joined Epstein to sexually assault them. Ghislaine has been trying to prove her innocence ever since the allegations were brought against her. Her lawyers say she was given a 20-year sentence because Epstein is not alive to get the sentence he deserves.
Not much is known about the persecution of these sex offenders.
Personal Conviction
We all tend to overlook Predatory attitude of men and women, especially those in power, who can throw money around to make things go away. Not only sexual abuse, but we have also seen, times without number, these people robbing people of their future.
I have heard from several people, men, and women, how women have violated them. It is either they never get caught or they cry wolf and blame it on someone, preferably a man (Ghislaine Maxwell blamed Epstein, calling him manipulative and that she was not aware of abuse going on underground even though several evidence, including a picture Prince Andrew and a 17-year-old victim with her in the background, pointed her to be an accomplice in the crime).
In Nigeria, we have several women like Ghislaine, we know them as “Madam”. Although not as porch as Ghislaine with a British accent and enough money to buy houses in New York, they are notoriously known to traffic young girls after promising them- some with the consent of their families- a better life outside Nigeria. Most of these girls are sold to Libyans or taken to Italy where they sleep in forests, horrible motels, or rooms. Their passports get taken away from them and they are indebted to these Madams for years. Some of them find it difficult to leave the system as they know nothing else, others cannot face their families due to shame, so they stay back to do other jobs.
Several women have told their stories, yet no one has been held accountable for their crimes. Optimistically, this is only the beginning, maybe one day men will be able to talk about their abuse and justice will be served, baby steps. If one person can be held accountable, others will get uncomfortable in their highchairs. They start to realize they are not above the law and that everybody can see through their charade.
